On Saturday, February 1st, the British Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania held its 21st Burns Night – traditional charity event to celebrate the birthday of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns (1759 – 1796) and to raise funds for the local charities. The largest and most popular event of the chamber was held in the Vilnius Town Hall and was attended by 240 distinguished guests representing more than 10 different nationalities. The Burns Night GALA is one of the most outspoken annual Scottish traditional events that has been bringing together people around the world for more than 200 years.
Since 2000, Burns Night in Vilnius raised over 100 000 EUR shared by 25 different children and youth organizations in Lithuania. 21st Burns Night raised a record amount of 16.000 EUR to be shared by a local charity –
Mykolas Sopočka Hospice that is building a hospice for children. All the money collected during the supper will be donated to support the installation of the kinesitherapy and rehabilitation room for those with the necessary special equipment. All this will make it possible to provide the opportunity to feel different emotions, to move, to communicate and to live in dignity until the end.
After the Dinner and the Charity Raffle, all the Guests were invited to the next Hall for the 2nd and no less important part of 21st Burns Night in Vilnius – traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing with a ceilidh caller!
The ceilidh band this year – Rerr Terr, which is pleased to return back to Vilnius after 2016 and 2019, and lead the guests through fantastic ceilidh dances. The band is one of Scotland’s best-loved and in demand ceilidh bands. Rerr Terr was established in 1998 by three good friends and has gone from strength to strength playing regularly at some of Britain’s most prestigious venues for some incredible hosts such as J.K. Rowling, the Duke of Buccleuch and the Marquess of Bute. The trio play accordion, fiddle and drums in a lively and energetic fusion style and just makes people want to get up and dance. Come and join them after the dinner and have a rerr terr!

21st Burns Night coverage in media:
A mix of fantastic food, company, and entertainment is a landmark of Burns Night Gala dinner in Vilnius. And perhaps this combination which radiated the heat in the middle of Lithuanian winter had nothing to do with the warm Vilnius winter, but it certainly gave a lot of positive energy to all of the guests, who are looking forward to another Burns Night dinner already!
